Privacy
You can use every page of Wallace's Line without an account. You only need one to save parks or comment.
What we store when you sign in
- If you sign in with Google, an identifier from your Google account; we do not store your email address. If you use a username and password, your username and a salted hash of a key your browser derives from the password: the password itself never leaves your device.
- The public name you choose. It appears next to your comments.
- Your iNaturalist username, if you add it.
- If you link iNaturalist, a summary of your public observations of animals: which species you have recorded and how many times and, for those made in our parks, the park, the species and the day. It stays in your account even if you unlink iNaturalist, so your badges and challenges keep it. Only you can see it.
- The parks you mark as “Want to go” or “Been here”. Only you can see them.
- Your comments, which are public.
Cookies
Only when you sign in, and only two: one keeps you signed in for 30 days, and the other lets each page show your name. We use no advertising or tracking cookies and no analytics that follow you.
Other services
- Google confirms who you are when you sign in.
- iNaturalist: your browser loads the latest public sightings directly from iNaturalist and, if you link your username, your own public observations, to make the summary above. We never store the observations themselves: no photos, notes or locations.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores your account data.
Your choices
- On your page you can change your name, unlink iNaturalist, download your data, or delete your account.
- Unlinking iNaturalist keeps the summary already saved. Deleting your account removes everything at once, including your comments and that summary.
- Comments that several people report are hidden.
