The green araçari (Pteroglossus viridis), is a toucan, a near-passerine bird. It is found in the lowland forests of northeastern South America (the Guiana Shield), in the northeast Amazon Basin, the Guianas and the eastern Orinoco River drainage of Venezuela. At 30–40 cm. (12–16 in) long and weighing 110–160 grams (3.9–5.7 oz.), it is the smallest aracari in its range, and among the smallest members of the toucan family.
The green aracari was originally classified in the genus Ramphastos. The species is named for the green feathers covering its back. Males' crowns are black, while females' are reddish brown. Breeding occurs from February to June. It nests in tree cavities, producing 2–4 white eggs. The parents cooperate in rearing their young.
Its diet consists mostly of fruit, including the fruits of Cecropia trees and the palm Oenocarpus bacaba. The serrated edges of the green aracari's large bill help the bird to grip and gather fruit. Insects are also an occasional part of the diet, giving the birds additional protein.

With luck
About 10% of wildlife watchers report a Green Aracari sighting in Brownsberg Nature Park on a given day, based on 25 verified sightings from GBIF citizen-science data from 2019 to 2026. It is the 142nd most-seen of the 221 birds we can rate there. Over three days the chance rises to about 20%, and over a week to about 40%, if each day is a fresh chance.
February
In that month about 20% of wildlife watchers report a Green Aracari in Brownsberg Nature Park on a given day, against under 5% in August to December, the lowest months. May to July have too few records to rate.
Between 7 and 10 am
Across all the parks we cover, that three-hour window holds the most Green Aracari sightings with a recorded time, and about 9 in 10 of them come between 6 am and 6 pm: it is a daytime animal.
Only Brownsberg Nature Park, in our data
Brownsberg Nature Park is the only park on Wallace's Line with enough records to rate Green Aracari sightings: about 10% of wildlife watchers there report one on a given day.
GBIF citizen-science records
It is estimated from how often the Green Aracari is recorded against all the birds logged in Brownsberg Nature Park (25 verified sightings from 2019 to 2026), calibrated against known sighting rates. Figures are rounded to the nearest 10% because citizen-science data supports honest approximations, not decimals, and months with records from fewer than five people show "—". How it works.
