What visitors say
Still, since we saw no signs of other gorillas moving in the area and no signs of forest elephants or other animals, we decided to pack up and call it a successful visit anyway.
The mouthwatering list of mammals we did not get to see – like potto, Lord Derby’s flying squirrel, elegant galago and long-tailed pangolin (to name a few) – means I will certainly be back.
I found observing the gorillas in their natural habitat to be both humbling and awe-inspiring.
Odzala-Kokoua National Park is the base of our Republic of Congo safaris, a wild, untouched region that is a Central African stronghold for western lowland gorillas and forest elephants.
