The bronze-winged jacana (Metopidius indicus) is a wader in the family Jacanidae. It is found across South and Southeast Asia and is the sole species in the genus Metopidius. Males maintain territories, with one male in the harem chosen to incubate the eggs and take care of the young. When threatened, young chicks may be carried to safety by the male under his wings.
The bronze-winged jacana was formally described by the English ornithologist John Latham in 1790 and given the binomial name Parra indica. He placed it in the genus Parra along with all the other jacanas. Latham had earlier included the species in a supplement to his A General Synopsis of Birds but had not coined a scientific name. The present genus Metopidius was introduced by the German zoologist Johann Georg Wagler in 1832. The bronze-winged jacana is the only species within the genus. The name Metopidius is from the Ancient... Wikipedia →

Rare
Under 5% of wildlife watchers report a Bronze-winged Jacana sighting in New Delhi on a given day, based on 63 verified sightings from GBIF citizen-science data. It is the 147th most-seen of the 248 birds we can rate there. Over three days the chance rises to under 5%, and over a week to about 10%, if each day is a fresh chance.
Any time of year
In every month with enough records, under 5% of wildlife watchers report a Bronze-winged Jacana in New Delhi on a given day, so our monthly data shows no clear season.
Between 3 and 6 am
Across all the parks we cover, that three-hour window holds the most Bronze-winged Jacana sightings with a recorded time, and about half of them come between 6 am and 6 pm: it is most active around dawn and dusk.

Of the 51 cities where we can rate Bronze-winged Jacana sightings, New Delhi ranks 50th at under 5%. The best odds are in Savar (Bangladesh, about 70%), Tamluk (India, about 40%) and Chattogram (Bangladesh, about 40%).
GBIF citizen-science records
It is estimated from how often the Bronze-winged Jacana is recorded against all the birds logged in New Delhi (63 verified sightings), calibrated against known sighting rates. Figures are rounded to the nearest 10% because citizen-science data supports honest approximations, not decimals, and months with records from fewer than five people show "—". How it works.
