The scrub euphonia (Euphonia affinis) is a species of bird in the family Fringillidae, the finches and euphonias. It is found from Mexico to Costa Rica. Multiple studies in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries resulted in its being reassigned to its present place in the family Fringillidae.
The scrub euphonia's further taxonomy is unsettled. In that year they recognized godmani as a full species, the West Mexican euphonia. However, as of late 2025, BirdLife International's Handbook of the Birds of the World (HBW) retains godmani as a subspecies of the scrub euphonia.
This article follows the two-subspecies model. The scrub euphonia is about 10 cm (3.9 in) long. It weighs 8.5 to 12.8... Wikipedia →

Rare
Under 5% of wildlife watchers report a Scrub Euphonia sighting in Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve on a given day, based on 44 verified sightings from GBIF citizen-science data from 2019 to 2026. It is the 276th most-seen of the 412 birds we can rate there. Over three days the chance rises to under 5%, if each day is a fresh chance.
Any time of year
In every month with enough records, under 5% of wildlife watchers report a Scrub Euphonia in Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve on a given day, so our monthly data shows no clear season.

GBIF citizen-science records
It is estimated from how often the Scrub Euphonia is recorded against all the birds logged in Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (44 verified sightings from 2019 to 2026), calibrated against known sighting rates. Figures are rounded to the nearest 10% because citizen-science data supports honest approximations, not decimals, and months with records from fewer than five people show "—". How it works.
